PEKAN, 2 April 2021 - This program was organised by Jabatan Pengajian Umum (JPU) in collaboration with Pekan English Language Committee (PELC). Spelling Bees are a long-running tradition which encourages students to develop their spelling skills and vocabulary, as well as developing their poise for public speaking. This online contest is a part of the English Empowerment Initiatives in this pandemic situation and it is open to all Semester 1 and 2 students. 12 students have participated in this contest.
Students need to register themselves via the link given (google form) one week before the contest started. Two days before the contest, the students were added to a Whatsapp group for further briefing. They need to watch and understand a video on the rules and regulations of the contest.
There were four rounds of the contest – Round 1 (Easy – hints were in Malay), Round 2 (Medium – hints were synonyms of the words), Round 3 (Hard – no hint at all) and Round 4 (bonus round to select the winner).
Muhammad Nur Alif Bin Nordin from SMO Semester 2 won the first place, Muhammad Danish Danial Bin Mohamad Amir and Nur Ain Batrisyia Binti Mohd Zamri from SMV Semester 2 won the second and third place.
